Brief History of the Laboratory
The Soil Health, Plant Tissue & Water Laboratory was established during the 1930's. The original building was damaged by fire and the building which presently exists, with some amount of additions, was constructed in 1949.
The Soil Health, Plant Tissue & Water Laboratory has the capacity to perform a wide range of analyses. These analyses are arranged into four(4) categories: Soil Samples, Plant/Leaf Tissue, Water Samples & Fertiliser.
Analyses Conducted in the Laboratory
The Laboratory is currently in the process of receiving ISO accreditation. It is recognised that being accredited ensures that the systems and processes practiced in the laboratory, as well as the quality of work done meets international standards.
Functions of the Laboratory
The core functions of the Laboratory includes:
Planning and executing soil survey studies.
Soil health analyses (physical, chemical & biological components of the soil)
Conducting plant/leaf tissue analyses for clientele.
Conducting water sample analyses for clientele.
Providing advice on soil fertility management.
Recommendations of fertilizers to clientele as a result of soil analyses done.
