ISO ACCREDITATION
Paragraph two found on the website http://www.adk-environmental.co.uk/iso_accreditation.htm adequately summarizes the definition of International Standards Organisation (ISO) accreditation.
"ISO accreditation by a company indicates that the company has been externally assessed and found to have a consistency of approach in developing, implementing and improving the effectiveness of a quality management system that enhances customer satisfaction by meeting customer requirements".
The Soil, Water and Plant Tissue Laboratory is in the process of receiving the ISO accreditation. It is recognised that being accredited ensures that the systems and processes practiced in the laboratory, as well as the quality of work done meets international standards.
It is a fact that an accredited Laboratory is an effective marketing tool, and a passport to submit tenders to contractors that require independently verified laboratories. The Laboratory will use criteria and procedures specifically developed to determine technical competence, thus assuring customers that the test, calibration or measurement of data supplied by the laboratory are accurate and reliable.
The whole process of accreditation will ensure that the work and analyses done in the laboratory is recognized both nationally and internationally, as well as guarantee technical competence and reliability according to international standards.
The Jamaica National Agency for Accreditation (JANAAC), an agency of the government of Jamaica is the national accreditation body in Jamaica. JANAAC is a member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), which has a membership of several accreditation bodies worldwide.
